College Republicans Committees

At our Executive Board Coffee Meet and Greet this Thursday, we’ll be discussing with our members the proposed idea of creating committees within our organization to help mobilize and coordinate certain efforts for the organization. Please make sure to drop in if you have any ideas about this topic or just to voice your opinion about the idea.

Committees will allow us to have individual College Republicans contribute knowledge and skills to the organization in specialized areas in which they have particular interest or connections. For example, we will be looking to implement a Publicity/Recruitment Committee to drum up awareness of our group on campus and increase turnout at meetings, a Fundraising Committee to help keep our organization financially solvent and other committees specific to campaigns, ballot initiatives, and other causes or areas of specialization. Members of each of these individual committees would meet on their own with an advisor or liaison to the Executive Board and work on specific areas relevant to our functioning as a club. They would then present their work, findings, or efforts to the Executive Board, and in some cases to the full membership of the College Republicans at our mass meetings. Depending on committee, certain groups will coordinate various activities and/or take the lead on campaigning for a particular candidate or ballot initiative.

We look forward to your input on this promising new development and hope that active involvement on committees will contribute to our individual members’ continued involvement and participation with the College Republicans as a whole!

Campaign Opportunities

Many members of the UMCRs have approached me with questions about various campaigns and inquiries about how to get involved with a candidate this election season. I have compiled a list below of some of the various campaigns with which the College Republicans will be helping out with volunteer opportunities and the like. If you are interested in interning for a particular campaign or aren’t sure exactly what you want to do or how you can best help, please contact me at bkoziara@umich.edu or by calling 248.202.8944 and we can discuss your options and find the right fit for you. The list below is by no means complete and there are many other campaigns that could use help; however, these are some of the local campaigns that we will be focusing our efforts on, as well as others who have contacted us directly already asking for assistance:

Tim Walberg for U.S. Congress – Michigan’s 7th District
Dr. Robert Steele for U.S. Congress – Michigan’s 15th District (located at the Washtenaw County Fix Michigan Center, 2245 S. State St., Suite 2100.)
Mark Ouimet for State Representative – 52nd State House District
Washtenaw Co. Fix Michigan Center – 2245 S. State St., Suite 2100
John Bremer, FMC Director: jbremer@migop.org or (517) 803-3332

Come make calls or help out as we send our entire local Republican team to victory!

The success of our candidates this fall depends on the efforts of hundreds of individuals, like the College Republicans, getting out and working for victory. Whether phone banking, door-to-door, mailings, data entry, or even an internship, please call or email me with any questions about getting involved with any of these campaigns or any of the statewide candidates and I will help you as best as I am able or direct you to the appropriate contact. Let’s Win in ’10!

September 2010 Chairman’s Address

    College Republicans,

For those of you who are new to the group, let me take a moment to welcome you to the College Republicans at the University of Michigan. For those of you who are ready to rejoin us this year I am very pleased to welcome you back. With your help we are looking forward to getting Republicans elected across the board this November. We had a huge turnout for our first meeting of the year, and plan on continuing to bring our members great opportunities, speakers, and events. Congressman Eric Cantor, RNC Chairman Michael Steele, and Republican nominee for Attorney General Judge Bill Schuette are just a few of the many conservative leaders we will be hosting in the coming months. I would like to extend all of you an invitation to meet with the College Republican Executive Board this Thursday at 8pm at the Starbucks on State St. We will be discussing how members can get involved on some of our committees, as well as answering any questions you may have, including information on the Freshman Chair position.

I am looking forward to working with all of you in the coming year, and hope to see you this Thursday.

    Sincerely,

    Charles Bogren
    Chairman
